The Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes are small cubes that are generally used for germination and seedlings. They are made of mineral rock woven to form fiber. This fiber is compressed to form a cushion like structure and is cut in various sizes. The Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes are made with high quality fibers that have all the features required in a plant substrate.
They are spongy in nature. It absorbs water and also holds the capacity to drain the excess water. Unlike sponge, rock wool does not soak the things that are placed on them. This feature makes it comfortable to be used as plant substrate in hydroponics and indoor gardens. It not only holds water but also allows plenty of aeration which is essential for the roots to breathe.
Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes makes an ideal choice for the small seedlings and seeds as they only need some water and need not suffer soaking. It makes a great choice for them over the traditional coconut husk.
Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes is conditioned before they are used. Soaking it in optimum pH water that also has nutrients in it is the first step in its preparation. The soaking is done for a few hours, longer the better, almost 24 hours if needed. Squeeze out the excess water and the rock wool cube is ready for use. This soaking makes sure that the pH stays appropriate for longer.
Like all other rock wools Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes also need this prior treatment. It removes any troubles from the substrate and makes it fit for the plants.
Uses of Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes
Seed germination: Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes are apt for seed germination. The small size makes it ideal for seeds and do not make a large bed. The number of seeds that can fit on a single rockwool cube depends on the size. Two vegetable seeds can be germinated on a single cube and if it is herbs, 4-5 can share the same space. The seedlings can stay in it until they reach 2-3” inches of height. After that they are transplanted.
Transplanting: For transplantation, the seedlings on the Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes is taken along with the cubes and is placed over or inserted into a bigger rockwool. The drainage system works well and can pass through even this double layer of rockwool material. The roots also will have better penetration over it. While transplanting to a soil medium, make sure that the rockwool cube is not completely submerged in the pot soil. The rockwool cube should stay higher than the level of soil, this helps avoid any contamination and root rot.
Plant cutting: Small plant cuttings that are to be used for cloning are placed in this Cultilene 3” x 3” x 3” rockwool cubes. For cloning the cuttings need a rooting gel application before placing it on the Cultilene rockwool cubes.
